Pink Supermoon Qi + Yangsheng Rituals

On April 16th, we see the first supermoon of 2022 — the Pink Supermoon in Libra! Native American tribes had different names for the Pink Moon like Omakakiiwi-giizis (Frog Moon) by the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe). However, the term Pink Moon was coined by The Old Farmer’s Almanac which corresponded not with the color of the full moon but with the blossoming of the phlox subulata — an early springtime flower commonly known as moss pink.

In Daosim, the full moon of each month represents the decline of Yin and the Yang Qi reaching its full manifestation. The supermoon of this month means we will experience an intensified manifestation of Yang Qi — super Yang Qi! The Yang Qi of the spring Wood season will also amplify the Yang Qi but fortunately, we have the transition of the Animal Spirits from the Yang Dragon to the Yin Snake.

Snake Spirit Wisdom

The Snake is the 6th animal in the Chinese Zodiac cycle and is associated with the Earthly Branch. The Snake Spirit is known as the “little Dragon”, and embodies similar characteristics as the Dragon such as intelligence, wisdom, and confidence but on a more Yin level.

The Snake spirit is an excellent guide for the Pink Supermoon. The Snake teaches us to be observant and lay low. They also teach us to take the time to ponder and assess things before moving forward. Learning to conserve our Qi until it is the perfect time to attack is a powerfully calculating move.

Change does not always have to involve Yang action. Yin action is just as powerful, and often an overlooked trait when we want to grow and evolve.

Yangsheng Rituals for Elemental Archetypes

The Yangsheng Rituals below can be practiced on the day of the Pink Supermoon and the following days until the next lunar phase — the Last Quarter lunar phase on April 23rd.

Wood Elemental Archetype

The action-orientated Wood Elemental Archetype may feel a sudden boost of energy during the Pink Supermoon. It’s your season to shine and the supermoon is here to illuminate your dreams. In a recent IG Live, Franchesca Issac of Alma Acupuncture shared her wisdom of being a Pig Spirit. She said as a busy mom, clinician, and small business owner, she connects with the Hun Spirit of the Wood season by paying attention to the emotions her dreams evoke rather than the details of the dream.

Yangsheng Ritual – Wood

Connect and explore the dreamy feelings before getting out of bed. Try to remain in bed with your eyes closed and spend a few moments to reconnect with your breath. Explore the feelings that arise from your body and soul.

Fire Elemental Archetype

Fire Elemental Archetypes represents full Yang, and so during the Pink Supermoon, you might be feeling extra! It’s really easy to get swept away with the Yang Qi but it’s important to move with it rather than get swept away by it. Fire types have to remember to consciously cultivate their Yin Qi and to ground themselves in a way that still honors their spirit.

Yangsheng Ritual - Fire

Cultivating Yin Qi through sensual movement. Listen to your favorite super sexy jam — my latest fav is Crush by Cigarettes After Sex — and allow the music to move your body. Then take a few moments after and reconnect with your breath to ground your Yin Qi.

Earth Elemental Archetype

The Wood spring season can be a very nourishing time for Earth types especially if they spent the winter season resting. Use the illuminating Yang Qi of the Pink Supermoon phase to light where in your life need to cultivate rest, and see ‘rest’ in a fresh way.

Yangsheng Ritual - Earth

Elevate your rest to the next level. Whether it’s binging on Netflix (currently binging on Good Girls!), baking a cake or a spa day, try to reframe 'rest’ as a indulgent experience to nourish your spirit. Experience rest as not only a necessity for self-care but an indulgence that you deserve.

Metal Elemental Archetype

Metal and Wood have a fascinating dynamic that can be very advantageous. The days before the Pink Supermoon, you may have feeling not quite like yourself. Reflect on the days before the full moon phase and see where in your life that needs change.

Yangsheng Ritual - Metal

Explore the practice of making bad art — ‘bad’ being the imperative word. Whether it’s doodling, finger painting, singing or sketching, make bad art and get in touch with being imperfectly perfect. Invite and allow yourself to not be so perfect.

Water Elemental Archetype

The Water Elemental Archetypes may find themselves daydreaming or visiting other realms more so during the Wood season. Tap into your gift and connect with your higher spirits, ancestors, and guides to learn more about how to move forward during the Yang seasons.

Yangsheng Ritual - Earth

Practice the art of sharing your wisdom as a form of storytelling. As you share your Water-y wisdom with your community, engage in the mutual experiencing of sharing by also learning from your community. Use the Yang Qi of the Pink Supermoon to spiritually connect with others on a human-to-human level as you share your stories.
